SHORT-TERM STUDIES

- Way of Love - by Norman Wirzba

Sundays beginning September 9 - October 7 | 5:30 PM ADMINISTRATION BUILDING - CONFERENCE ROOM
Book Cost: $5

Leader: Rev. Suzanne Dornsmith

The Way of Love invites readers to experience Christianity that is centered on love. Extensive theological training cannot replace the way of love that transforms and connects each of us to God and the faith, Wirzba contends. Interweaving illuminating testimonials, historical references, and Scripture, he reveals how love allows us to move into the fullness of life; when we do not love we lose our faith. "To fail to love," he reminds us, "is to lose God."

You'd be hard-pressed to overstate the extent to which fear, anxiety, and worry permeate our lives today. Fear wreaks havoc on our relationships and communities It leads us into making bad decisions. It holds us back from the very pursuits that promise fulfillment and joy. We know Jesus tells us, "Do not be afraid," but with everything going on in the world, how is it possible not to be anxious? In this five-week study based on Unafraid, Adam Hamilton explores the worries and fears most of us experience. Kate Bowler is a professor at Duke Divinity School with a modest Christian upbringing, but she specializes in the study of the prosperity gospel, a creed that sees fortune as a blessing from God & misfortune as a mark of God's disapproval. At thirty-five, everything in her life seems to point toward "blessing". She is thriving in her job, married to her high school sweetheart, & loves life with her newborn son. Then she is diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. The prospect of her own mortality forces Kate to realize that she has been tacitly subscribing to the prosperity gospel, living with the conviction that she can control the shape of her life with "a surge of determination."
